Howard HR chief indicted for hiring illegals
The human resources manager at Howard Industries Inc. was in federal court Thursday to answer a 25-count indictment charging him with conspiracy and employee verification fraud.
Jose Humberto Gonzalez was arrested earlier Thursday for his alleged role in the employment of illegal immigrants at Howard’s transformer manufacturing facility in Laurel.
He was released on a $25,000 bond.
The indictment follows the August immigration sweep of the Howard plant. In the largest workplace enforcement action in the agency’s history, 595 illegal immigrants were placed under administrative arrest, including nine who pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated identity theft.
