Quality-of-life officers to return to Jackson

Residents soon will see Jackson Police Department quality-of-life officers back in their neighborhoods, officials said Sunday.

During a neighborhood association solutions summit sponsored by Leadership Greater Jackson on Sunday, JPD interim Chief Tyrone Lewis spoke to a crowd of more than 50 people, many of them presidents of their neighborhood associations. The purpose of the meeting was to generate ideas on ways to fight crime, prevent neighborhood deterioration and improve the overall function of neighborhood associations.

For Lewis, it was his first time meeting the neighborhood representatives since being named interim chief April 1. He replaced Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin, who resigned. McMillin also attended Sunday’s meeting.
