Mayor Melton and Recio could have seperate trials

U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan today ordered parties in the trial of Mayor Frank Melton back into the courtroom next week to determine whether Melton’s former bodyguard, suspended police officer Michael Recio, should be granted a separate trial.

The hearing will be Tuesday and Jordan said he is looking for “creative solutions” to the problem posed by Melton’s apparent desire to testify that Recio, 39, had nothing to do with damage caused to a Virden Addition duplex during an Aug. 26, 2006 warrantless raid.
