BATON ROUGE – Go ahead and start checking flights. If you reserve a flight to Omaha, Neb., today, you will spend hundreds less than if you wait until June. Book it. Two months from today is June 13 and the first day of the College World Series in Omaha, and LSU will be there.
The Tigers, 26-9 after winning 12-7 at Alabama Sunday, are not even playing as well as they can, and they are still ranked No. 2 in the nation and are just one game out of the overall lead in the Southeastern Conference standings at 10-5.
LSU is on the cusp of taking over the SEC, and it has not played an SEC home game this month. The Tigers have won all five of their SEC series’ this season, and they have not even played the easier teams yet and they have won three of those series’ on the road.
LSU has already taken two of three at No. 3 Georgia, which leads the SEC with an 11-4 mark, and it’s taken two of three at South Carolina, which is in the upper third of the league. The Tigers have also won two of three at home against No. 14 Ole Miss, which is contending in the West.
