Democrats disagree over top committee’s makeup

Mississippi Democrats will meet next month to try to decide whether to support the removal of the party’s executive director and allow controversial member Ike Brown’s return to power.

At a weekend meeting, some of the party’s executive committee voted to boot Sam Hall after weeks as executive director and elevate Brown to the executive committee.

“It is my contention that the meeting was illegal, and anything that was done at that meeting is null and void,” Democratic Party Chairman Jamie Franks said Monday.

He was out of town at the time of the meeting and said he had warned committee members beforehand that it violated party rules.
