MDOT’s Brown must submit to re-confirmation

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 19, 2009

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 3/19/9

Reversing course, the Mississippi Transportation Commission will submit Executive Director Larry “Butch” Brown for Senate re-confirmation.

The decision comes after an attorney general’s opinion said it is a violation of law not to do so.

Both Senate Transportation Chairman Tom King, R-Petal, and Northern District Transportation Commissioner Bill Minor confirmed Wednesday that Brown will go through the confirmation process.

“If that is the law, that is what we will do,” Brown said Wednesday. “I am not out to change any law.”

Some people and officials have complained about the slow pace of state highway construction and, as executive director, Brown has been the brunt of some of that criticism.

“I don’t know of any reason I should not be reconfirmed,” Brown said. “We have a good record of achievement and work.”
