TATE DEM – Editorial: McCoy wrong (as usual)
The Mississippi House of Representatives voted last week to override Gov. Haley Barbour’s announced intentions to decline about $50 million in federal government giveaway money because it would do damage to our state’s future efforts to acquire new industry.
The House, led by Speaker Billy McCoy, exhibited the common mentality that has gotten our country in the big mess it is in – entitlements. Everyone is entitled to everything.
No government money is “free.” No government money comes without strings. Barbour is right. McCoy is, as usual, wrong.
