Mississippi might join three dozen other states in requiring that cigarettes extinguish themselves if left unattended.
The so-called “fire-safe cigarettes” are made with two or three bands of less-porous paper.
The Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes is a national group that’s pushing states to require the safety feature.
The coalition says the paper bands act as “speed bumps” that will extinguish a cigarette if the smoker is not inhaling.
