YAZOO – Travis Childers fooled many conservatives

Travis Childers fooled many conservatives

An eighth grader came up to me the other day and asked, “Mr. Patterson, I notice that you use the word ‘spinmeister’ in your articles. What exactly is a ‘spinmeister‘?”

“Let me give you a simple example,” I responded. “One day, I invited two friends of mine, Scott Jones and Larry Dixon, to join me on a seven mile jog. On the way, the two of them began to argue about how long it would take them to run the course.

Now both of these guys were younger and much smaller than me, so I knew that they could pick up the pace and run the distance at about six minutes per mile, much faster than my eight minutes per mile. Suddenly, their speed increased. The competitive juices had begun to flow. I could tell that they intended to prove just how fast they could run the course.

“In a few minutes, they had sprinted past the Highway Department and had gone down the hill just past the Unclaimed Freight Furniture Store. When I reached Unclaimed Freight, they were at the top of Broadway.

“About this time, Sheriff Homer Hood saw me and pulled over to say hello. After talking for a minute or two, I asked him who the two runners were that he had just driven past, the ones going down Broadway.”

“Oh, that was Scott and Larry,” he answered.

“Well, I was wondering who they were. I’ve been gaining on them for the last 15 minutes, so I’ll probably catch up to them on Main Street.”

Now, let’s get real. There was no way that I was ever going to catch Larry and Scott – ever! In fact, I did not see either of them again until the next day. But Sheriff Hood drove away thinking that I had been catching up to them. I had left the erroneous impression that I was a faster runner than Scott or Larry. Now that’s “spin.”

Politicians “spin” their accomplishments all of the time. Reporters do it, too. How often do you hear that 90 percent of all reporters voted for the liberal candidate, but yet, they claim that they can do objective reporting?

What absolute nonsense. Liberal reporters give liberal slants to the news that you and I consume. Look no further than ABC, CBS, NBC, or MSNBC. Liberal politicians get favorable reports about them just slightly less than 70 percent of the time while conservatives receive positive reports about 38 per cent of the time. No wonder why Americans distrust the media.

Congressman Travis Childers, the man who replaced Senator Roger Wicker, has become a master of “spin.”
When he was campaigning for office, he claimed to be a conservative Democrat. In fact, he professed to be more conservative than his opponent, hence his election to Congress. But the fact is that he was simply practicing his “spinmeister” skills.

Once upon a time, in a far away land, there lived some conservative Democrats. No more. There is no such thing as a “conservative Democrat” anymore. A conservative Democrat is now a Republican.

“Conservative” Travis Childers voted for The American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act, S-CHIP (backdoor healthcare, otherwise known as socialism), The Health Centers Reinvestment Act, the 21st Century Rural Health Care Act, the Medicare Improvement for Patients and Provider Act, and the Small Business Health Options Program, to name a few. No New York liberal Democrat has done more for the Democrat Party and socialism than Mississippi’s own Travis Childers.

Now Childers is telling his constituents that he is voting for all of this largess to help his district.
“We want good jobs for our people,” he proudly “spins” while doing the bidding of his esteemed leader, Nancy Pelosi. Yes, “Miss Nancy” has communicated to little Travis with words that he can completely understand.
“If you want me to help you win re-election, Travis, vote for everything I want,” she says.
“Yes, ma’am,” is the compliant response.

John Maynard Keynes, a British economics professor, gave us the type of economics being practiced by the majority of the Democrats, including Travis Childers. This theory, simply stated, demands that the government control everything from the money supply to what can be manufactured and produced. Naturally, this requires that all of the banks be nationalized. Does the word “socialism” come to mind?

President Obama has promised to change the way America does business, and it appears that Travis Childers is the man from Mississippi leading the charge. He is on a spending spree of unparallel proportions, a spree sure to cause economic hardships for not only Mississippians, but for the American people.

A trillion here, a trillion there, and soon it adds up to an almost incomprehensible amount of money. The most important question is one that few are asking – how will we ever repay the debt?

I am reminded of the words of Thomas Jefferson who wrote, “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”
