Local governments are still outlining projects tapped for federal stimulus money even though there are a lot of unanswered questions for the state as well.
“We are going to stimulus college right now,” said Dan Turner, press secretary for Gov. Haley Barbour. “A lot of us are going to be forced to graduate.”
The state is expecting an overall $5.12 billion economic impact from the $787 billion stimulus package signed two weeks ago by President Barack Obama. That includes $2.8 billion in grants for a variety of services, including education, public safety, Medicaid and tax credits for individuals, families and businesses.
State officials expect the money to start reaching Mississippi sometime in June. City and county governments have asked for money for roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
