The Mississippi Press, 2/14/9

In last year’s bitter special election for a U.S. Senate seat, winner Roger Wicker, R-Tupelo, outspent former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, D-Jackson, by a better than 2-1 margin, according to recently compiled federal election data.

Wicker, who had previously served in the House, spent some $6.4 million to hold the seat for another four years, according to the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan research organization.

Musgrove’s expenditures totaled almost $2.7 million, the center reported, based on disclosure reports through the end of last year filed with the Federal Elec tion Commission.

The numbers do not include expenditures by party organizations or outside interest groups.
