Rebuild Tennessee? Yes, Kiffin can
Lane Kiffin had to come off the recruiting trail one week in January, something about needing to be back home in Oakland.
His wife, Layla, was having their third child.
“One day there,” says Tennessee’s new coach, “and then back at it.”
When you’re rebuilding a program in the meatgrinder that is the SEC, you’re not taking days off. And you’re not taking no for an answer.
Case in point: Kiffin’s recruitment of assistant coach Ed Orgeron, who may just be the best in the game at persuading 17- and 18-year-olds to commit four years to a university. Orgeron said no once, then again, then a third time.
