While many people get in their cars at 5 p.m. and drive out of downtown Jackson, a growing number of people have begun to make downtown their home.
A group of those residents has formed downtown’s first neighborhood association. The organization held its first meeting earlier this month.
About 150 people live in Jackson’s central business district. Residents and developers expect that number to grow rapidly in coming years.
Developments with more than 100 residential units are under construction, and thousands of apartments, condominiums and townhouses have been planned.
Julie Skipper, president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, said the group wanted to form before the boom.
“With all of the residents that live here now and will be coming in the very near future, I thought it was important for us to have a voice,” Skipper said.
