Source: Sarkisian new head coach at Washington

Steve Sarkisian is the new coach at Washington, a source told CBSSports.com Thursday night.

USC’s offensive coordinator and assistant head coach will take over for Tyrone Willingham, who will coach his final game for the Huskies on Saturday. Sarkisian, 34, is expected to reconnect the school’s recruiting ties to Southern California. He is known for his recruiting and play-calling abilities as well as his ability to coach quarterbacks.
This year’s Huskies (0-11) have been called one of the worst teams in Pac-10 history. They are in desperate need of energy, youth and a new direction. Sarkisian provides all three. The school’s last winning season was 2002.

It is not known when Sarkisian will take over at Washington. USC plays its final regular-season game Saturday at UCLA. If they win, the Trojans will play Penn State in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.
