Entergy plans to cut rate 14%

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 26, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/25/8

After a summer of rising rates, Entergy customers soon should see an average $40 off their electric bills – the result of falling natural gas prices across the U.S.

The utility company has requested to lower its fuel adjustment rate by 14 percent starting Jan. 1. The Mississippi Public Service Commission, which must approve the action, said Monday that the change should pass without a problem.

“Everyone is glad to see this happen, myself included,” Central District Public Service Commissioner Lynn Posey said. “This is good news for everybody. I don’t foresee any issues with the adjustment.”

The change would slash bills by about 33 percent compared to bills from July and August of this year. At that time, a spike in natural gas prices across the country spurred a 28 percent jump in Entergy’s bills.
