The Jackson City Council will vote again on Mayor Frank Melton’s proposed $2-per-hour raise for low-paid public works employees, and this time it could be approved.
The proposal is back on the council’s agenda for Tuesday, about a week after it died on a 3-3 vote. It needs four votes to be approved.
Councilman Kenneth Stokes, who supports the plan, was not at the Nov. 10 meeting. He is sponsoring the revote on Tuesday, along with Councilman Frank Bluntson.
“A lot of these employees are getting ready for the holidays,” Stokes said. “They really need to see these raises in their checks as soon a possible.”
