Speculation increased Thursday that indictments may come soon in the allegations that the imprisoned and disbarred attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs of Oxford schemed with others to bribe Hinds Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter.
“I’d be surprised if some indictments didn’t come before the end of this month,” said an attorney close to the case, who asked not to be identified.
The speculation comes from the accidental release of a sealed document, which stated that former Scruggs associate, Joey Langston of Booneville, and his Ashland attorney, Tony Farese, appeared Oct. 23 before a federal grand jury in Oxford, where Langston testified some 90 minutes.
Apparently, this is at least the 12th meeting Langston has had with federal authorities since his Jan. 7 guilty plea to conspiracy in the DeLaughter case.
