Harrison County Republicans make final push for GOP ticket
The final weekend leading up to what most consider the most historic presidential election in recent history, has been a busy one at Republican Campaign Headquarters in Gulfport.
“This is Meg, and I’m real sorry to bother you,” says one phone bank volunteer. “I’m just a volunteer, calling to remind you that Tuesday is election day.”
The GOP faithful continue to burn up the phone lines and pound the pavement for their candidates.
“Yesterday(Saturday) we had about 150 to 151 volunteers,” says volunteer Parks MacNabb of Jackson. “Today(Sunday) we’ve got about 70 out walking. We’re just trying to energize the base with a very grassroots, intensive, get out the vote effort.”
In fact, with the McCain/Palin ticket still holding a solid lead over Obama/Biden in Mississippi, local volunteers are focusing more on the all important Senate race between incumbent Roger Wicker and his Democratic challenger, former Mississippi Governor Ronnie Musgrove.
