Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama carried Mississippi, Roger Wicker defeated Ronnie Musgrove and at least one sitting congressman was defeated, based on the results from the secretary of state’s mock election.
The mock election is among the efforts made by the secretary of state to promote voting. Of 514 schools that signed up to participate, 328 submitted results.
“This is a tremendous turnout for our students and a great way to get them started in the democratic process,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said in a statement.
Obama received 52,904 votes to Republican nominee John McCain’s 44,489.
