Redshirt, be danged: Croom plays Clark to get wins right now
STARKVILLE — Two days before Saturday’s 31-22 Mississippi State win over Middle Tennessee State, MSU coach Sylvester Croom said he was comfortable burning a redshirt this late in the season “if I thought he could help us win the game.”
Exhibit A of that trigger came in the first quarter Saturday, when true freshman receiver Arceto Clark trotted onto the field for the first time. Saturday was State’s eighth game of the year.
But given that he finished with just one rush for 2 yards in limited action, there was a natural question after the game: Was Croom OK with his decision to burn Clark’s redshirt?
