Bama relying on two leaders

Caldwell, Johnson still setting team’s tone as seniors

TUSCALOOSA – Center Antoine Caldwell can’t tell you the last time he got the thrill of jogging through the tunnel with the rest of his Alabama teammates before a game.
“I like it that way, though,” Caldwell said.
Coach Nick Saban, as is his policy, will wait until the end of the regular season and then ask players to elect three permanent team captains to be enshrined at the base of Denny Chimes on campus.
But as with lopsided poll numbers on election night, two of three might as well be called right now. Caldwell and safety Rashad Johnson – both seniors – were each voted captains during their junior seasons. They carried that into this year, playing a key role in a 6-0 start that has the Crimson Tide ranked No. 2 in the nation.
