The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 10/12/8
Former congressman Ronnie Shows got out of the special election for Trent Lott’s U.S. Senate seat, saying he would have trouble raising the money to run.
Based on what the big money has done to create the mudslinging, attack campaigns of Democratic former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove and Republican interim Sen. Roger Wicker and the public frustration with both of them, he might have done just fine as the broke, nice-guy alternative.
I’ve heard it from Democrats and Republicans alike in the past couple of weeks that they were so sick of the Senate campaign that they didn’t want to vote for either Musgrove or Wicker.
