BRAD LOCKE:Time for Croom, Bulldogs to have some faith
STARKVILLE – If Mississippi State is ever to crawl out of this hole and become a bowl-contending football team again, the players and coaches need to have faith in each other.
Right now, this seems to be a problem, particularly with head coach Sylvester Croom.
Case in point:
Against LSU on Saturday, the Bulldogs were trailing 17-10 but had the ball at their own 23-yard line with 1 minute, 15 seconds left before halftime. All Croom could think of at the time was, This is just like last year – when LSU took advantage of a Michael Henig interception to add a last-second touchdown before halftime, making it 17-0 en route to a 45-0 romp.
“I said, ‘I’m not going to make a decision that’s going to get us in trouble,’ ” he said after the 34-24 loss.
Hard to blame him, considering the field position and the way the offense had bumbled away so many previous opportunities this season.
