Auburn’s season is not over, just longer
However you feel about the way Auburn played against LSU, the fact remains that the two teams generally believed to be the best in the Southeastern Conference Western Division – we’ll find out about Alabama this week at Georgia – played a game that generally lived up to everyone’s expectations.
The problem is the letdown for the losing side. It’s still September, but the Auburn-LSU winner usually ends up representing the West. So the knee-jerk reaction to Auburn’s loss is to say that the West race is over.
Of course it’s not. Ever since LSU won the league and the national championship last year with two losses, it takes a lot more to count a good team out than it used to.
