Souther Mississippi Golden Eagles a footballwork in progress

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss remains a work in progress three games into the 2008 college football season, but first-year coach Larry Fedora said he likes the direction the Golden Eagles are headed.
That is especially true after what he saw during a pressure-packed, 93-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter that clinched USM’s 27-24 victory at Arkansas State on Saturday.
“It’s not like we got them on the sideline and said it’s a do-or-die situation right now and you have to do it,” Fedora said Monday during his weekly press conference. “We know the chances of going the distance when you are backed up aren’t good, but we do it in practice. I think they did a great job.”
