OXFORD – Sophomore safety Fon Ingram was poised for more playing time before he was benched by a DUI arrest.
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt announced on Sunday that Ingram, the Rebels’ No. 2 strong safety, had been suspended for one week for an undisclosed team rules violation.
Oxford police said Ingram was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence and careless driving.
“He was playing really good football. He was doing a really good job of covering kicks, and we were going to get him more plays starting this week, but he made a bad decision,” Nutt said.
Kendrick Lewis, Johnny Brown or Terrell Jackson could be used to spell starter Jamarca Sanford if necessary Saturday against Vanderbilt, Nutt said.
