Auburn’s spread sets up run

STARKVILLE — Think of the spread offense, and you’re likely to imagine those five-wide receiver sets, quarterback in the shotgun and heads craning to see how far he can throw it.

Not if you’re Sylvester Croom.
“With these spread offenses, I’m always more worried about the run than the pass,” the Mississippi State coach said. “If the spread offense can run the football, you’ve got real problems, because the passing game is going to already stretch your defense because it’s so spread out.”
Looks like you’ve got real problems Saturday night, coach.
Ninth-ranked Auburn (2-0) visits Scott Field in both teams’ Southeastern Conference opener with its new, Tony Franklin-installed spread attack.
