Bulldogs bank on Carroll’s rebound
STARKVILLE – It’s all on Wesley Carroll now.
He doesn’t need to think of it that way, though.
When he was thrown into the SEC fray last year as a freshman – thanks to injuries to the two quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart – Carroll responded with a cool head and an efficient arm.
He didn’t show those traits much in last week’s 22-14 loss to Louisiana Tech, when he was 12 of 25 with three interceptions while splitting snaps with juco transfer Tyson Lee.
Despite Carroll’s performance, MSU coach Sylvester Croom has enough faith in the sophomore to make him the man under center.
Newcomer Lee was 10 for 15 with no picks against Tech, but Croom felt the former ICC standout didn’t do enough to warrant 1A status.
“I think it helps Wes as far as his mentality,” Croom said. “It puts a lot of pressure on him, because he knows now he definitely has to play well.”
