Nutt finds plenty to impress him

Houston Nutt had plenty of reasons to be pleased about the Ole Miss Rebels’ debut against Memphis on Saturday night in Oxford.
For starters, the Rebels racked up 448 yards total offense in their 41-24 victory at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. But equally important, at least in Nutt’s mind, was the fact that they didn’t have any turnovers or foolish penalties. Ole Miss (1-0) is on the road to play No. 23 Wake Forest (1-0) on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
“There were some times where we could have been better,” Nutt said in his weekly news conference Monday. “We can be more physical, and finish until the whistle. But we didn’t have any turnovers, we didn’t have any penalties.
“I was real proud of our offensive line.”
Nutt was also impressed with Jevan Snead’s ability to stay in the pocket and locate a secondary receiver. Snead, making his first start as the Ole Miss quarterback, passed for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Versatile Dexter McCluster was a valuable weapon in the “Wild Rebel” formation, when McCluster took a direct snap from center much like Darren McFadden did during Nutt’s final two seasons at Arkansas.
