What We Learned: The (eventful) Monday morning teleconference edition
We learned PLENTY from this morning’s teleconference with Mississippi State coach Sylvester Croom.
Straight to the bullet points:
• Senior linebacker Jamar Chaney’s season is over. He underwent surgery Sunday night to repair a leg fracture. “It’s definitely a blow to us,” Croom said. “That guy was a good player for us. Played well for us the other night. There’s leadership that’s going to be missed. These things happen and we’ve got to move on.” The initial report was that this was an ankle injury, and that’s probably what it is, just some confusion here and there. I’ll confirm later. Anyway, Croom had said there was hope that he could return after missing three or four games, but once he put pressure on the injury after returning from Ruston, the fracture grew wider and the need for surgery was apparent.
