Rebels’ players, fans crave success
OXFORD, Miss. — Senior wide receiver Mike Wallace made one of the bolder preseason predictions this week when he proclaimed that Ole Miss, which failed to win a single game in the Southeastern Conference last season, could win a “championship” this fall.
Wallace, who managed to say this with a straight face, said could, not would — and there is an important difference. Still, while most fans of the program have tried to control their expectations for coach Houston Nutt’s first season in Oxford, there is an unmistakable feeling around town that the Rebels are capable of surprising some people.
