Seventh bowl win has meant everything for Mississippi State Bulldogs
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Derek Pegues felt it the day he returned to Mississippi State last January for the spring semester.
In past years, after losing seasons, Pegues, a senior free safety, noticed the students and fan base had already moved on from the Bulldogs’ football failures.
“There was no buzz on campus about football,” Pegues said. “It was all about basketball.”
But this time around, after State’s 10-3 AutoZone Liberty Bowl victory over UCF capped an 8-5 season — the Bulldogs’ first winning record since 2000 — no one wanted the ’07 season to end.
“Practically the day after the Central Florida game, people came up to me and asked, ‘What’s the season going to be like next year?'” Pegues said.
