Fedora could use 2 QBs; Davis has inside track
HATTIESBURG — It appears to be a race down to the stretch to decide who will be the Southern Miss starting quarterback on Saturday and it’s between redshirt sophomore Martevious Young and redshirt freshman Austin Davis.
Davis left the spring with a slight edge on Young after showing in the spring game that he has a knack for avoiding mistakes and making the correct decision. He also proved that he could run well with the ball and throw with accuracy.
The Meridian native hit 17 of 23 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown to go along with 52 yards on seven rushes. He hasn’t appeared to let up much through the preseason practices.
While Davis got off to a fast start, Young threw three interceptions during the spring game while hitting 28 of 40 passes for 335 yards.
