New Ivan Maisel book should spark debate among college football fans

As if Sunday’s release of the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll isn’t reason enough for discussion among college football fans, Mobilian Ivan Maisel is offering up plenty of additional argument material in a new book.
That’s the point.
The ESPN.com writer states in the introduction to his book, “The Maisel Report: College Football’s Most Overrated & Underrated Players, Coaches, Teams, and Traditions,” that opinion “is the mother’s milk of college football.”

“This book is going to start arguments,” Maisel said in a telephone interview, “but that’s what all of us do. If we’re (sportswriters) sitting together in the press box or in a hospitality room or someplace after a game, we’re sharing our opinions about college football. And that’s what college football fans do, too.
“You can’t write a book like this and not tick someone off.”
Maisel says such debates are as much a part of the game as tailgating, team Web sites and rivalries.
“What sport is better tied into opinions than this one? It’s at the very heart of how we all feel about the game,” Maisel said.
