McKenzie back from knee injury

JACKSON, Miss. — New Orleans Saints cornerback Mike McKenzie practiced for the first time in training camp Monday, testing his surgically-repaired right knee during the afternoon workout at Millsaps College.
McKenzie tore his ACL against the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 23 and had reconstructive surgery. He was held out of offseason workouts this spring and summer and was put on the physically-unable-to-perform list after reporting to camp last Wednesday.
“All offseason, I’ve been working really hard, doing a lot of conditioning work and a lot of covering, so this is the natural progression to get some teamwork,” McKenzie said after the 90-minute practice. “This is just part of the process.
“It’s just Day One. I’ve been doing everything against air, so once I actually get a chance to do everything against somebody I’ll be able to better gauge it. But today was a good gauge for me. I was able to get out there and not stick out like a sore thumb and get some work in with my teammates.”
