Medicaid solution involves face-saving

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 28, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 7/27/8

There appears to be little movement toward finding a solution on funding the state’s ailing Medicaid program.

Republican Gov. Haley Barbour is insisting on his proposed hospital assessment to help plug the $90 million funding gap.

Democratic House Speaker Billy McCoy is insisting on a tobacco tax.

Republican Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant has passed the hospital tax in his chamber and has said no to considering a cigarette tax at this time.

So, there we have it. Gridlock.
