Winning Paying Off For The Bulldogs
Mississippi State is quietly building a solid ’09 class that could be overshadowed by the success of its SEC counterparts. Defensive end Deontae Skinner (Macon, Miss./Noxubee), receiver Pat Patterson (Macon, Miss./Noxubee) and fullback William Shumpert (Fulton, Miss./Itawamba Agri) were quality in-state pickups for Bulldogs this week, all at positions in need of youth.
High school teammates Skinner and Patterson may be under-the-radar guys outside of the Southeast, but Sylvester Croom and his staff have done a good job identifying and developing talent since their arrival in Starkville. The 6-foot-3 Patterson has some of the better hands and jump-ball skills in this wide receiver class; he should grow into an impact possession guy for the Bulldogs once he becomes more polished as a route-runner.
