Yazoo City run continues with Cox – Dandy Dozen

Yazoo City? Two Dandy Dozen football players in a row? Yazoo City?
Ninth-year Indians coach Tony Woolfolk – born and raised where the Delta meets the Hills – just shakes his head and smiles at the whole idea.

“When I first got back, there was no way I could have seen it,” said Woolfolk, a former Alcorn State assistant and YCHS Class of 1982. “We started out with 25 guys on the team. Now we’ve got over 60 guys who are competing for championships, we’re winning in the playoffs and we’ve had back-to-back Dandy Dozens.
“I’ve got little kids coming up to me in the grocery store asking when they can play flag football. We have people lining up at the gate to get in before the games. It’s tremendous.”
Cox, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end, is the fifth player to be announced by The Clarion-Ledger as a member of Mississippi’s 20th annual Dream Team. Cox – who committed to Mississippi State in May – is in line to be the third Yazoo City football player to sign with a Division I-A school, an accomplishment that only a few years ago seemed as unlikely as a blizzard shutting down Highway 49.
