Dixon picks pro baseball, money over MSU football

Mississippi State thought it had scored a coup when it signed dual-sport athlete Rashun Dixon, the younger brother of Bulldogs running back Anthony Dixon, to a football scholarship back in February.
In the end, professional baseball – and a likely six-figure signing bonus – won.
Dixon, The Clarion-Ledger’s Mr. Baseball, agreed to terms with the Oakland Athletics over the weekend and will report to Oakland’s Arizona League team Wednesday.
“I’m just ready to play baseball now,” Dixon said. “Just got all of that out of the way, figured all of that out. I’m ready to play baseball.”
Dixon was drafted in the 10th round by the Athletics on June 6. At the time, he said he wanted a $600,000 signing bonus.
