With the conclusion of another athletic season at Southern Miss, athletic director Richard Giannini can turn his focus to making sure that two major construction projects are successfully completed.
The new offices and locker rooms at Reed Green Coliseum make up the construction effort that is nearest to completion.
“We’re getting close,” Giannini said. “The second floor is complete. They’re winding up the first floor and getting the carpet in. It’s just a matter of a few weeks.”
The new addition to the coliseum will be welcomed by the coaching staff considering the staff and players have been working out of trailers in recent years.
“The coaches are excited,” Giannini said. “It gives them as nice a space as anybody has in the country.”
Clearly the biggest project on campus is the expansion of the south end zone at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The new luxury boxes and club level seating are making obvious progress as the date of the first game against Louisiana-Lafayette nears on Aug. 30.
