Cohen realizes dream as MSU coach
STARKVILLE — When John Cohen decided he wanted to coach baseball, he dreamed of becoming the coach at Mississippi State one day.
Cohen’s dream became a reality Friday when he agreed to become the sixth coach in Mississippi State’s storied history.
The 41-year old Cohen agreed to become Mississippi State’s coach after being the coach at Kentucky the past five years.
Cohen is realizing a dream of returning to his alma mater, where he played baseball for Ron Polk from 1988-90.
“This is a chance to be where I want to be,” said Cohen, wearing a maroon sports jacket at a press conference on the Mississippi State campus on Saturday. “This is a childhood dream to be here.”
Cohen takes over at Mississippi State after being an assistant coach at Missouri from 1992-97, the head coach at Northwestern State from 1998-2001, an assistant coach at Floirda from 2002-2003 and the head coach at Kentucky from 2004-2008.
