Orgeron ratcheting up the heat on Saints’ defensive line

METAIRIE, La. –Saturday’s minicamp practice has barely even started and New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Ed Orgeron’s shirt is soaked with perspiration.

The former Ole Miss head coach is widely known for his high energy and high intensity, and the Saints players already feel the difference.
“If he raises (the intensity level) up, I’ll probably be passed out,” Saints defensive tackle Antwan Lake said. “(Friday), I thought I was going to hurl. So I think his level is just fine.”
The change in pace and excitement is the main reason Payton hired Orgeron while the two were in Mobile in late January for the Senior Bowl.
“He’s got a lot of expertise at that position,” Payton said. “Coaching the ‘D’ line is a little unique. I think the most important thing is that he’s teaching and he’s doing a good job of that. I’ve been encouraged from the effort and the energy we’ve been getting from the front. He and (assistant defensive line coach) Travis (Jones) work well together.
