Hosemann working on business court system

By: Magnolia Tribune - June 4, 2008

The Sun Herald, 6/3/8

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says his office is working on establishing a state business court system to handle disputes between companies, which often get sidelined in county courts in favor of criminal cases.

In a meeting with the Sun Herald today, Hosemann said a panel of about 40 members of the business and legal community has been assembled to study the issue. The group hopes to bring a proposal to lawmakers during the next regular legislative session, which begins in January.

The court would mostly handle contractual and other disputes between businesses. Hosemann said often the local courts that handle business matters often give murders and other criminal cases a priority, so business matters often take longer to resolve.
