Golden Eagle sports teams spared academic penalties
Upon the NCAA’s release of its annual academic progress report (APR) today, some Southern Miss sports teams have come through with flying colors.

The Southern Miss baseball team was publicly recognized last month as one of 712 teams across the nation for posting an APR in the top 10 percent within its sport. Its multiyear APR rating came in at 978 (with the highest possible score being 1000).
The Golden Eagle women’s tennis team posted the school’s highest rating (984), followed by women’s soccer and baseball (978).

Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year, based on the eligibility, retention and graduation of each scholarship student-athlete. An APR of 925 projects to an NCAA Graduation Success Rate of approximately 60 percent.
