Even though the Jackson City Council unanimously approved a resolution Wednesday to take out a $6 million line of credit to pay for and speed up storm debris removal, trucks won’t be rolling out immediately.
The city is required by state law to advertise and take bids from local banks for 10 days to receive the lowest rate. The money could be available as early as the 11th or 12th day after the bids are advertised.
The city also has to approve agreements with two private contractors – Garrett Enterprises and IMS Engineers P.A. – to handle the cleanup efforts following the April 4 tornadoes since the scope of the work is too much for city crews to handle alone.
