Bobby Bowden did a strange and wonderful thing Tuesday morning. He acted his age.

How? Simply by saying, “When you get my age.”

You don’t get to use that phrase until you get his age, and major college football coaches almost never get there, at least while they’re still major college football coaches.

“I’m 78,” Bowden said, helpful as usual.

The Florida State coach didn’t stop there. He made a startling admission during the ACC spring football teleconference. He admitted that he won’t be the Florida State football coach from now until the end of time.

“I’ve always signed five-year contracts,” Bowden said. “I’m on a one-year basis now. Everybody knows I’m not gonna coach till I’m 83.”
