Graves Makes More Mississippi Denials, Again Choosing Words Carefully

Graves’ suggestion that State Farm’s is unfairly “casting aspersions on us [he and Robertson]” by making claims unsupported by deposition testimony is clearly false with respect to Robertson’s presence at the meetings. Unless, of course, Graves cares to make the case that the “Chip” who was at the March 11 meeting and who runs Tony Dewitt’s law firm is some other “Chip” and not Chip Robertson.

But the bigger question is why Todd Graves would choose to couch his denial in this manner. If you’re Graves, why make statements that clearly tie your behavior with respect to the March 11, 2006 meeting to the behavior of Robertson when you have a much, much cleaner alibi than he does? It seems someone might make that choice if he’s taking up for Robertson because Robertson knows that he was at the March 11, 2006 meeting and they’ve decided that the best play is simply to deny everything.

Or perhaps Graves isn’t denying Robertson’s attendance at the March 11, 2006 trailer meeting but rather denying that he “got on the State Farm web site and viewed stuff”? Sadly, none of this is clear from the quotations included in the Margolies story, which winds up creating far more questions than it answers.
