Mississippi Capitol police officers can now enforce the law on streets, sidewalks and parking lots surrounding state buildings in downtown Jackson.
Gov. Haley Barbour signed a bill Monday that clarifies the officers’ powers. It became law immediately.
The Capitol police department is part of the state Department of Finance and Administration. It is a separate police force from the city of Jackson’s.
