Barbour’s toy bill veto survives override attempt
Seventy-two legislators voted to override the veto, while 48 voted against it. Eighty votes were needed to override the bill.
Barbour vetoed House Bill 1240, which would create the Mississippi Consumer Protection Act. Under the bill, any manufacturer who sells children’s toys that do not adhere to federal standards could be in violation of the act. It also says the state attorney general should keep a running list of toys that are found to be defective.
