Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith said Sunday he will investigate reported death threats against Mayor Frank Melton after an arrest last week in the 1995 slaying of a Jackson police officer.
Melton said he was notified last week of threats made against him and several others involved in Friday’s arrest of Sharrod Moore, who is accused of killing JPD officer Robert Washington in 1995.
Melton said the threats were made by phone to a person Melton wouldn’t name, then relayed to Melton. Threats also were aimed at Smith, an investigator in the case, and former Jackson Councilman Daryl Neely. Neely’s involvement in the case was not clear.
